Concussion Program
We offer a comprehensive concussion treatment regime to handle all types of potential head injuries; Including but not limited to: sports injury, falls, impact activities, and motor vehicle accidents.
Our physical therapists are ImPact certified and can offer effective diagnosis and treatment throughout all five of our locations. Each patient will be assigned to our in-house concussion coordinator who will assist in organizing testing, interpreting results, medical appointments, and logistics to help expediate the process and minimize any delays in accessing treatment and follow-ups to clear athletes to return to play.
Components of our program include:
ImPact Testing - Screening is key: for our athletes we now offer baseline ImPact tests. This is a nationally recognized computerized test that measures visual and cognitive functions like reaction time, and can prove very useful as a baseline to compare post injury. Many college and professional teams utilize this same test, along with physical exams, to help determine return to play status. As part of the actual treatment phase of concussion, repeat ImPact tests will be administered periodically and discussed directly with your physician.
Neck - Full and thorough cervical spine evaluation. Particular emphasis on upper neck segments, headaches, and jaw.
Vestibular – screen of the inner ear sensory system that creates the sense of balance and spatial orientation for the purpose of coordinating movement. The brain uses the vestibular system in the head along with proprioception throughout the body to understand the body position and acceleration of movements.
Visual – Assessment and treatment for the eyes for converging, focus, and for eye control with head movements.
Physical exertion – standardized testing of physical exertion, along with sports specific drills will be conducted at our robust fitness centers. Vitals will be monitored by certified therapists and fitness trainers to ensure lasting results. This component is typically the last and important stage necessary to help clear the athlete to return to play.
